Services
The Hope Exists Veterans Mobile Outreach, funded through the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP) and in partnership with Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine, is a dedicated initiative committed to addressing the critical issues of suicide awareness and reconnecting Veterans with essential VA services. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by our brave men and women who have served in the military, this program strives to bridge the gap and offer vital support. The outreach effort is not only focused on raising awareness about the prevalence of suicide among Veterans but also on providing a lifeline to those who may be struggling. By mobilizing resources and reaching out directly to Veterans, the program aims to create a network that fosters a sense of community and belonging.
Supported
Activities
1 / Case Management
Assistance with emergent needs relating to health care services, daily living services, personal financial planning and counseling, transportation services, temporary income support services, fiduciary and representative payee services, legal services to assist the eligible individual with issues that may contribute to the risk of suicide, and childcare.
2 / VA Assistance
Navigating Veterans to the Department of Veterans Affairs system, ensuring they receive their earned benefits without delays. The team collaborates with VA facilities and community programs for seamless referrals and priority care, aiming to reduce bureaucratic obstacles and promote veterans' well-being, ultimately alleviating financial and healthcare stressors that can lead to suicidal ideation.
3 / Peer Support
Led by individuals who have overcome their own challenges, the Veterans Outreach Team provides one-on-one mentoring, group support, and community events. This program fosters connections among veterans, reducing isolation and encouraging open discussions about mental health and the transition to civilian life. Through peer support, veterans develop coping strategies, build confidence, and rediscover a sense of purpose—all while helping to break the stigma surrounding mental health assistance.
4 / Outreach and engagement for population of focus
Proactive outreach plays a crucial role in preventing suicide among veterans by identifying at-risk individuals and linking them to support services. Outreach teams organize community events, and work in partnership with local organizations and law enforcement. Educating and training families and community members is essential for recognizing the warning signs of distress. Through collaborations, veterans are made aware of available resources and receive the support they need to flourish.
